Aipusen English Training Institute is located in Guangzhou, also known to English speakers as Canton. The capital of Guangdong province with a population of 6.5 million, Guangzhou is the most important city in South China. The city has a long history and presents an interesting mix of old and new, from a 2,000 year old royal tomb to modern skyscrapers and plazas. Guangzhou is also famous for its importance during the Opium wars; Sha Mian island, with its tree-lined streets and colonial architecture, retains the flavor of those times. Through much of Guangzhou's history as a trading center and major port, the city has been considerably more open to the rest of the world than many Chinese cities and to this day is more cosmopolitan, with a thriving ex-pat. community. Modern Guangzhou offers culture, history, nightlife and the world-famous Cantonese cuisine. Only two hours from Guangzhou, the quiet countryside of Guangdong or the excitement of Hong Kong are easily accessible.
